Pause, Don't Burnout
I am confident in saying there have never been busier times in human history. We extend ourselves in so many directions every day. We take in crazy amounts of information daily. We are involved in more than ever before.
At a cost though.
Most people, me included, do not take time to breathe in.
Burnout is real. Sometimes you will never recover 100% from burnout.
The thing is, nobody will manage this for you. Companies, other people and even yourself will keep piling on more and more and more and more.
You have to manage burnout for yourself. Know your limits. Burnout can be a combination of physical, mental and emotional factors. Know your mental limits. Know your physical limits. Be careful if you push those limits because sometimes complete recovery isn't possible.
Scheduled rest is not unproductive. Rest is an integral part of human life. Without proper rest/work balance we will eventually burnout.

ReplyDeleteI like that. I find it is hard for me to not feel guilty when I allow times to simply stay home, drink tea, and rest. But it is okay to do that. And sometimes, to say no to taking on another activity. Burn out is a real thing, especially in our generation. Never have I seen more hard working people who continually commit to stretching themselves and giving of themselves to others. I know some very hard workers and I appreciate them. You are one of them.
Burn out is real as is depression, anxiety, stress, suicide and the likes of which fall under mental health.
ReplyDeleteWe need to end the stigma around this and realise that God has given us tools to combat this. You're not weak if you find yourself not mentally fit, you're not spiritually cold, you're not wanting to give up on life, you're just human. It's not an ideal place to be,but it's not hopeless.
As Whitney said, mental fitness is a definite need in our generation. Stimuli is at an all time high for we are constantly on our phones, computers, ipads, and info and there are so many things that surround us. How do we combat this? Oh boy, I'm giving away one of my blog posts... ;-)
Thankful for you and for being my friend!
Learning to say "No" is a word I have hardly every allowed myself. Seems like it is saying, I am a failure. At 65 I am learning too say "no.' Instead of going into my reserves and draining myself; I am trying to stop and preserve what I have left, so I can give my best, whatever there is left too give..Hope this makes sense.
ReplyDeleteAs Whitney stated; you are a hard worker.. May I suggest you get a balanced amount of play time and rest time, in your day!! Bro. Vaughn Morton taught on balance.... talked of playing in his backyard with his grandchildren. Take the time; it will make every other aspect of your day, more efficient.
