In The Moment
One of my favourite things about playing an instrument is, being in the moment. Playing music is a fluid activity where you are fully engaged and intently listening to others. You are constantly making decisions and adjustments. It requires you to be completely "in the moment". Playing with other musicians who are listening and are "in the moment" with you is a fun experience.
Unfortunately so much of life can tend to be lived not fully engaged. Going through the motions. Not really invested in what you are doing. Not listening to those around you. Complaining. Getting through the day...
We all have daily tasks that require our attention (jobs, school, families, friends) and it is an honour to have the aforementioned things that need us. What if we didn't have school opportunities? Or nobody wanted to pay us for our time and skills? Or we had no family that needed us? Or no friends that needed us?
We all have important things to do. (including enjoyable things like rest, relaxation and community)
What happens if were fully invested in the responsibilities we have? What happens if we live "in the moment" and extract as much value from our tasks, relationships and responsibilities?

Interesting POV. I feel like I've heard somewhere before that living in the moment can be irresponsible and we should focus on the bigger picture of life. You, however, are claiming that living in the moment is actually what can be more fulfilling and satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI think I am often guilty of not enjoying and being fully engaged with "the moment". Often times it seems as though I am thinking about doing something at a later time, for example, when working I'm often desiring to relax and therefore cannot be as effective or efficient at my task. On the other hand when I'm relaxing I find myself feeling like I ought to be doing something more productive with my time, and therefore, don't fully appreciate my down time.
As simple as it sounds it can be hard to do, but I desire to enjoy each moment for all it can offer. Don't rush your next cappuccino. Enjoy the responsibility of thinking through a problem to solve at work. Enjoy God and his blessings in every aspect of life.
Great post, brother.
