This Blog Exists, Why?
The are a lot of reasons why I started this blog. I am honoured that anyone would spend time to read my thoughts. I'm not a great writer like some of my friends. So thank you everyone was has spent time to read this. I hope I have not, or will not waste your time. To provide some background, context and explain the "why" of this blog, here is some background:
- I felt like I was in a negative space and wanted to force myself to start thinking and being more positive. One way to do this was to write something positive every day. There is more than enough negativity in the world, this is my tiny contribution to offsetting negativity.
- I wanted to document the daily lessons I was learning. That way I can look back and remember what I have learned. It would also force me to think a little more and try to grasp the lessons that were occurring around me.
- I thought the daily discipline of writing something positive, no matter what, would be a good exercise for me. Good for self-discipline and also provide a challenge for myself. I know there is nothing new under the sun, so what I write is definitely nothing new.
- I wanted to see what would happen if I could be consistent and post every day for a year. This is my 166th post, and 166th day. So I am just over 1/3rd of the way there.
- I wanted to test how Google Ads worked and how much you can make. So you will see a couple ads on the site. For those curious, I have been making about $0.01 every second day. After a year I should have made about $1.80, not a bad return for my thoughts :) So far the blog has been averaging about 50 page views per day.
- I also wanted to share what I'm leaning and possibly spark a bit of positivity for anyone who was interested in reading. Also, hopefully cause any readers to think and live a little more deliberately.
Other notes:
- The point of the blog is not to be controversial. But I realize some ideas may inherently be controversial and I am okay with that.
- I have done my best to steer away from directly theological topics. It has been difficult to do so though :) This is for two reasons: 1) I do not consider myself qualified to be providing theological disseminations. 2) I was hoping my words would help anyone who happened upon the blog, both the believer or non-believer.
- I am not ashamed of my convictions, this just is not the forum to discuss them, for me :)
- I do appreciate and respect those who do blog about spiritual/theological issues.
So that's it, just in case you were wondering what possessed me to start this and post daily.
Smile, think positive and love.
I think blogging is the 21st-century equivalent of armchair philosophers meeting to trade ideas. While not all ideas are equal, all people are equal and should have an equal opportunity to voice their ideas. Even if I think wrongly, if I never share my ideas I forfeit my opportunity for correction. Contrast brings clarity, and the more voices at the table the more vibrant and productive our community will be. I value your voice, and your example of engaging in public dialogue.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what it is, a platform for dialogue.
DeleteI couldn't agree more regarding voices at the table. I think it is super important for growth.
Thanks Orton!
I have enjoyed the posts I have read. Your generation is a wonderful mix of amazing people. I love reading all your thoughts. You provoke me to thought and help me to grow even though in older than you all. I bow in respect to your consistent effort.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tina!
DeleteIn a lot of ways I am proud of my generation too. Glad to hear that confirmed from someone just a day or two older than my generation :)
